Trusting in Him
|
Trust - this is something I have a hard time with and it seems to take me a long time to gain trust in someone. Why is this? I don't know that I can actually put a finger on the reason, nor do I think it is wise to openly trust someone when you first meet them. Street smarts call us to be cautious and to guard our hearts to a certain extent.
However there is one relationship that we can safely trust in the Other Party. You guessed it - our relationship with God! This is definitely something I need to work on as I try to place my life at the foot of the cross and ask what it is God wants of me and to trust in the fact He will take care of me. Funny how I know this mentally, but trying to live it out in my life is another story.
This theme has been showing itself to me a lot over the past few months and I heard it again on the radio this morning as I was driving to work. They mentioned Isaiah 26:3-4. I suggest you check it out, but basically the gist of it is that those who put their trust in the Lord will be at peace. Who wouldn't want that? May we all, especially me, work on placing more of our lives into the hands of God and trusting Him.

The Church Painter
|
There was a Scottish painter named Smokey MacGregor who was very interested in making a penny where he could, so he often thinned down his paint to make it go a wee bit further. As it happened, he got away with this for some time, but eventually the Baptist Church decided to do a big restoration job on the outside of one of their biggest buildings. Smokey put in a bid, and, because his price was so low, he got the job. So he set about erecting the scaffolding and setting up the planks, and buying the paint and, yes, I am sorry to say, thinning it down with turpentine.
Well, Smokey was up on the scaffolding, painting away, the job nearly completed, when suddenly there was a horrendous clap of thunder, the sky opened, and the rain poured down washing the thinned paint from all over the church and knocking Smokey clear off the scaffold to land on the lawn among the gravestones, surrounded by telltale puddles of the thinned and useless paint. Smokey was no fool. He knew this was a judgment from the Almighty, so he got down on his knees and cried: "Oh, God, forgive me; what should I do?" And from the thunder, a mighty voice spoke..

Obama & Notre Dame
|
We have discussed this topic at a PB & J in the recent past, and learned that the topic stirs feelings in nearly everyone, whether it be agreeing with or disagreeing with the Univerity of Notre Dame's decision to invite such an influential person to speak. The University's name actually means "Our Lady", which refers to the Mother of Christ, our Lady, Notre Dame. The video below introduces us to Fr. Corapi. Fr. Corapi is a very direct speaker and he does not disappoint with his video message below. For those of you not familiar with Fr. Corapi, he is an excellent speaker on many topics, but particularly about pro-life issues for which he has a "tell-it-like-it-is" approach. In any case, here again he speaks the truth. Check it out and pray for Notre Dame and all those who wrongly and immorally promote the "culture of death" in our country.
